Winter Construction Tips for Better Grouting Effect
1. Temperature Considerations
Do not perform grouting below 5℃; it is recommended to grout when the temperature is not lower than 10℃.
Low temperatures can lead to longer curing times and poor fluidity of the grout, which not only increases the difficulty of applying it but also reduces the wetting and adhesion properties on the side of the tiles.
Additionally, the grout that cures in low temperatures is prone to issues such as whitening and haziness.
2. Appropriate Heating to Reduce Grout Viscosity
A more thorough mixing of the AB components makes it easier to apply the grout and ensures better curing results.
3. Waxing the Tiles
Winter grout curing is slow, and waxing helps to remove the grout more quickly and effectively, avoiding issues such as residue, chipping, and the need for excessive effort.
4. Extend the Time for Chiseling the Grout
In low temperatures, chiseling the grout too quickly can lead to residue and uneven edges. When the environmental temperature is below 20℃, it is recommended to wait for 24 to 48 hours before chiseling.
5. Lower the Pressure Setting for Applying the Grout
The grout becomes thicker in winter, and applying it with a high pressure setting can lead to bursting of the tube and material splashing.
Excessive outflow speed can lead to uneven outflow of the AB components, resulting in abnormal curing after construction; it is difficult to control the amount of outflow, which can cause waste.
Therefore, the pressure setting of the grout gun should not exceed 4 in winter. If the packaging of the grout shows unusual sounds or deformation, stop applying the grout immediately and reduce the pressure setting or heat the grout material appropriately.
