Design Insights: Wu Xiaoguang on the Power of Detail
On September 24, 2025, the "Search for Influential Creators in the Design Industry – Cover Story City Salon," co-hosted by InteriorDesign Chinese Edition and Schneider Electric, took place in Fuzhou. This season's theme, "Little Things, Big Impact," delved into the profound connotations and design inspirations behind the concept. Wu Xiaoguang, the design director of Dati Design with 26 years of experience in commercial interior design, was invited to attend and was interviewed by Sina Home.
Wu Xiaoguang emphasized that true details concern all users of the space. Using a seaside resort hotel as an example, he highlighted that design must respect nature protection and also pay attention to the "service staff" who stay for a long time, as "they have the deepest experience of space and are worthy of the greatest environmental care." This meticulous observation of "human scale" is a deep manifestation of "little attention to detail".
In terms of industry trends, Wu Xiaoguang believes that hotels are moving towards a fusion of "B&B-ization" and "hotelization," which essentially seeks a relaxed and natural vacation experience. On the technical level, he advocates for "the best intelligence is naturally generated," promoting a sense of natural and symbiotic technology experience. His Yunnan cultural tourism project is a testament to the logic of "small details build big business" by connecting the ecological chain details of "eat, drink, stay, and play," satisfying the high requirements of high-net-worth individuals for "instant emotional value".
Wu Xiaoguang summed up that designers need to deeply understand the transformation from business logic to design logic, practice the concept of symbiosis in the details, and be able to see the big picture from the small, giving the space enduring vitality.
