On May 16th, at the "Fengyun Gusu · Good Life" Experience Season and the 27th Anniversary of Hongma Ant Group, Hang Chunxia, the Director of the Fine Arts Research Institute of the Chinese Academy of Art and the Publisher of the "Art Observation" magazine, delivered a speech that was full of speculative and intellectual strength. He posed a fundamental question: What is the relationship between Chinese culture and the world? What are the possibilities between Eastern aesthetics and Western modernity?

In his view, the East and the West are blending in the "misreading" of each other, and new cultures are produced in the process of misreading. He emphasizes that what is truly important is whether we can build a belief in our cognition that the West can be compatible with the East, and the East can also be compatible with the West. There has never been a dominant force, nor is there a need to distinguish between primary and secondary.

He took the history of art as an example, pointing out that many innovations in Western modern art were actually inspired by Eastern philosophy, painting, and craft; while Chinese contemporary design's absorption of Western functionalism is not simple imitation, but "rebirth" in the local context. The key is not to understand the other "correctly," but to allow different cultural elements to collide and ferment freely with an equal and open mind.

Hang Chunxia particularly emphasized a historical law: throughout the long history of Chinese culture, no peak has ever been produced in a closed state. From the Silk Road integration of the Han and Tang dynasties to the overseas trade and cultural exchanges of the Song and Ming dynasties, each cultural prosperity has been accompanied by embracing the world. Conversely, closure will lead to rigidity. Only by being open, inclusive, and embracing the world can Chinese culture itself be reborn and redeveloped.

This view is in harmony with the 27-year practice of Hongma Ant. From creating the only home and woodworking museum in the country, to building the Hongma Ant Technology Home Cultural Innovation Park & Art Life Street, Hongma Ant has never regarded "Suzhou aesthetics" as an isolated traditional symbol. Instead, it has introduced international design language, intangible heritage, and contemporary art with an open attitude, allowing Eastern aesthetics to constantly regenerate in the dynamic blending.

What we need is not to stick to "purity," but to grow a Chinese culture that belongs to this era through continuous dialogue with the world. This is not only the direction of art, but also the direction of a good life.
