Recently, Zaha Hadid Architects has collaborated with Italian home brand Citco to showcase the new Aeris series at the Milan International Furniture Fair. The Aeris series creates a remarkable dialogue between design aesthetics and architectural structure, where感性intuition and rational calculation converge.
This series includes the Aeris Arcus (table), Aeris Vires (chair), and Aeris Aura (light). In these works, the substantial volume is given a dynamic quality, challenging the stereotype of static, heavy materials, transforming them into a light and agile presence.
The Aeris series shuns redundant decoration, focusing on structural aesthetics as the core design language. The surface texture and overall form of the objects are based on structural logic, evolving naturally along the trajectory of force conduction, dispersion, and dissipation. The final works are not cold industrial products but a poem frozen in time.
The Arcus table in the Aeris series draws inspiration from the structural logic of bridge architecture, with load distribution, mechanical balance, and structural tension at its core design concept.
The bottom of the table is carved with hollowed-out grid geometric patterns, resembling ripples of water; the edges are thinned, presenting an almost impossible delicate texture, and the openings extend like the horizon. The entire piece exists between the tangible and the ethereal, the earth and the sky, in a space filled with tension.
The Aeris series transcends the definition of traditional furniture, existing between architectural aesthetics and product design, standing alone as a concise interpretation of a grand design concept: the spaces we live in and the furniture we use every day can carry the design patterns and artistic expression of bridges, towers, and even city-level structures.
The design breaks free from the constraints of gravity, interpreting the eternal imagination beyond time and space. Despite being made from heavy materials such as stone, metal, and glass, the series exudes a weightless lightness. The Aeris series is a hymn to transformation: reshaping the inherent form of matter, breaking the boundaries of cognition, and extending the imagination and possibilities of design infinitely.
