Evolution of Home: Social Kitchens and Personal Care Washrooms

Have you noticed that in recent years, our understanding of "home" has been subtly changing?

In the past, the kitchen was Mom's "battlefield," with the sliding door closed to keep out smoke and noise; the laundry room was hidden in the corner of the balcony, with the clothesline full of "daily trivia." But today, home is no longer just a physical space for sleeping and eating. It carries more meanings—socializing, emotions, rituals, and even becomes an extension of our self-expression.

On April 17th, the Deputy General Manager of Shenzhen Huaming Green Energy Refrigeration Co., Ltd., He Peng, held a designers' circle exchange event titled "Design for an Ever-Changing World" at Fissler Shenzhen. The event was attended by over 10 designers, including Ms. Dong Zongyu, Chief Designer of the SanYiBird brand of Haier Smart Home Shenzhen Branch, Mr. Luo Yuhang and Mr. Chen Tao, designers of Baidesheng, Mr. Peng Hua, founder of Leidiqi Full House Customization, Mr. Wang Chengsong, Chief Designer of Shenzhen Fanku Cloud Full House Customization, Mr. Liao Honghai, founder of Shenzhen Dianchuang Decoration Design Engineering Co., Ltd., Mr. Zhao Bin, designer of Shenzhen Dianchuang Decoration Design Engineering Co., Ltd., Mr. He Run, designer of M77 Full House Customization, and Mr. Gu Dachong, senior designer of Ma Zhe Customization.

Social Kitchen: Breaking Down the Invisible Wall

In the Fissler Shenzhen showroom, the open kitchen scene at home was directly "moved" to the scene— the island is both a meal preparation area and a social center; all the necessary kitchen appliances are embedded in the island and dining area in a minimalist way, almost without the awkwardness of "appliances." You never know that a simple pull-out drawer is a refrigerator or a dishwasher, and the steam oven and coffee machine are also embedded in the cabinet in a low-key manner.

Meal preparation, cooking, and sharing are all done in one go.

Mr. Liao Honghai, founder of Shenzhen Dianchuang Decoration Design Engineering Co., Ltd., said, "The kitchen should not be an island for one person. In the past, when we designed the kitchen, we thought about the circulation, storage, and smoke. Now we think about how to make the family want to stay here for a while."

This is the "social kitchen" concept proposed by Fissler. It no longer emphasizes the opposition between "closed" and "open," but makes the kitchen the "second living room" of the home—when friends come over, it's no longer just you bustling in the kitchen, but everyone is chatting, cutting fruit, and baking cookies around the island.

Decentralization and light socialization, these current trends that young people care most about, are gently embraced by Fissler with product logic.

Self-Care Laundry: When Laundry Becomes a Daily Ritual

If the social kitchen is an outward extension of shared space, then "self-care laundry" is a self-growth inward reflection.

In the laundry scene experience area, Fissler showcased another possibility: laundry and drying sets and clothing care cabinets are no longer roughly pushed into the balcony, but can be flexibly integrated into the dressing room, master bedroom suite, or even the entrance area.

Why the entrance? Designers quickly got the point—now many people have the concept of "secondary clean clothes," which are coats and scarves that have been worn for a day but not washed. They can be hung in the care cabinet as soon as they enter the door, with steam deodorization and gentle drying, making them crisp and new the next day. This "subtle" experience made a designer at the scene sigh: "Laundry is no longer a household chore, but a daily ritual."

From fabric care to space integration, Fissler liberates the "laundry" from the household chore list and makes it a part of life quality.

More Than Appliances: The Consensus of Designers

In the free communication session, the focus of the discussion gradually shifted from the product itself to more profound topics: how to truly implement social kitchens and self-care washrooms in different house types and lifestyles?

The answer is: Fissler's minimalist aesthetics and high adaptability make it no longer a fixed appliance, but a "editable module" in the hands of designers.

This means that in the future, home design will no longer be to put appliances into the finished decoration. Instead, designers will participate in product space planning in advance, even develop customized storage systems in conjunction with R&D, truly realizing "design for an ever-changing world."

Bringing Design Back to Life, Embracing Change with Life

This designer exchange event in Shenzhen had no dazzling stage, no noisy launch. What was there was just a group of serious people talking about design, relationships, and the future in a kitchen full of domesticity.

Perhaps, this is the most special place of Fissler: it does not try to "subvert" your life, but quietly integrates, and then makes everything a little better.

When the kitchen starts to socialize, when laundry becomes a ritual, home truly becomes the way we want it to be.
