Chen Shifu, 42 years old, is one of them. However, unlike others, his face is not filled with fatigue and exhaustion, but with a bright glow and a lively spirit.
How does one maintain enthusiasm in day-to-day work? Chen Shifu's story gives us the answer.
In 2019, Chen Shifu joined the Wanshi Platform. This year marks his eighth year in the furniture repair industry. In his thirties, he was burdened with tens of thousands of yuan in debt due to a failing business and a failed farming venture. Desperate, he turned to the repair trade in 2017, learning the skills in Shanghai under his brother's guidance.
Talking about his first repair experience, Chen Shifu still remembered it vividly, "It was a damaged redwood furniture that I had to repair for over an hour. Now, with my current skills, I can fix it in less than 20 minutes." A hint of pride shone through his regretful expression.
Repairing often requires the use of glue and paint with a strong smell, which, over time, can be harmful to health. However, Chen Shifu did not care about this, "No matter what, it can't be worse than being poor. It can't be worse than being broke. If you can't earn money, it won't matter even if you have a few more years."
He has a strong passion for the repair process and has developed a set of standards for quality control. "First, you have to be satisfied with it yourself. Then, let the customer find any defects. If it's repaired well, it's invisible to the naked eye."
With his excellent skills and rich experience, Chen Shifu was selected as a "Gold Level Repairman" on the platform. As of November 2025, he has completed over 5000 repair services.

"Look, I've made nearly a million. My monthly income is between 12,000 and 13,000 yuan, with occasional offline work bringing in a few thousand more, keeping it around 20,000 yuan each month."
Chen Shifu confessed that since he made a name for himself in furniture repair, he has paid off hundreds of thousands of yuan in debt within two years and bought a new house and a new car. In the documentary "A Day in Wanshi," Chen Shifu is always smiling confidently, and furniture repair to him is not just a way to make a living, but a skill.
In the video, Chen Shifu received an order to repair a wooden headboard that had been burned by a cigarette butt, with an irregular circular wound on the table surface.
He skillfully mixed wood shavings with glue to fill the damaged area, "When repairing anything, it's all about how you smooth it out. If it has grain, you use a knife to draw out the grain, and the repair effect is basically achieved." After leveling it out, he used paint to match the color, "As close to the original color as possible, and only after the painting is applied can it blend in."
Chen Shifu said that this basic theory is the experience he accumulated over the years through practice, which seems simple but actually took six or seven years to sum up. It includes the judgment of the degree of damage and the choice of repair methods, as well as the use of tools, all of which cannot be separated from thousands of times of practice.
Based on this theory, almost all of the damaged furniture repaired by Chen Shifu can be restored to near-perfection, receiving numerous positive comments.
When customers leave a five-star rating, Chen Shifu is overjoyed, "When customers are satisfied, I am happy." Getting the corresponding return for one's efforts is a very rewarding feeling.
"For example, in furniture repair, or installation work, we must serve the customers wholeheartedly."
Maintaining enthusiasm for work is not easy, nor is it out of reach. In Chen Shifu's view, as long as one takes heart in something and treats it seriously, success is inevitable.
